We spent a week at the Grand Riviera Princess Resort and provide you with our honest Mexico All-Inclusive Resort Review.

COUPLE GETAWAY

We took a few days away from the hustle and bustle of kids and schedules to enjoy our first all-inclusive resort. We chose an amazing resort, Royal Princess, located about 30 minutes from Cancun. It had everything and more! Beautifully maintained and so much to do.

For our 5th wedding anniversary, Chad planned a surprise vacation to Hawaii for us and even setup babysitters with detailed daily plans for them. He did this all without me knowing and did such an amazing job. He loves to plan surprises for me and I, sadly, am not good at planning things without him. Fast forward way too many years… Chad’s 40th birthday was coming up and I really wanted to plan a big surprise for him!

After interviewing him just a bit, I gathered that he wanted to go on a getaway with just us (meant so racing after kids and caring for their every need-just a break) and not have to worry about any details when we arrived. Thus, I decided to go to an all-inclusive resort. We wanted no cooking and no daily restaurant hunting.

ACCOMMODATIONS

After reading what seemed like over a hundred reviews, we booked at the Grand Riviera Princess in Riviera Maya near Cancun, Mexico.

And I’m not exaggerating when I say this is one of the Best Mexico All-Inclusive Resort.  This resort did not disappoint in any way.

The second we stepped into the huge open-air lobby and felt the ambiance of the resort, we were both so very excited and Chad began filming the amazing beauty of this resort. The pool wrapped through the entire resort and was kept immaculately clean.

TIP: If you want a chair poolside in the morning, people were staking claim on them by 7am. We always went to the beach first and had no problem finding a chair by the pool in the afternoon.

The rooms are spacious, with pool or garden views, and each has a personal jacuzzi tub. The service here was amazing and everyone is so friendly and greets you as you pass by, making it very easy to ask for any assistance.

TIP: Do beware that they will try to sell you on their resort chain membership. If you are not interested, let them know on day one.

DINING

As the meals were part of the all-inclusive package, the buffets are open for every meal. At dinner, the buffets had a different theme each night of the week to change things up a bit. We ate two dinners there: Italian and Mexican. Since we were in Mexico, the Mexican really was fantastic! I ate the pico de gallo like it was a side salad!

TIP: When you first arrive at check-in, request to set up reservations for dinners on each of the nights of your visit. We were able to eat at two of the restaurants: a Japanese cuisine and also a French cuisine. Both were extraordinary!
We opted for lunch at the beach diner, the poolside taco stand or in the air-conditioned sports bar. It was between 90-100 while we were there and many afternoons we would just pop into the sports bar to feel more human, rather than melting ice cube.

Our most favorite part of the resort dining were the drinks. Guess what though, we don’t drink alcohol! The Grand Riviera Princess is a family-friendly all-inclusive resort and they had a full virgin drink list. With the heat and the availability of drinks at nearly every corner of the resort, we were constantly sipping a virgin Pina Colada or virgin Strawberry Daiquiri. Yum!

ACTIVITIES

As parents of a whole lot of kids, we get very little time to ourselves (this is not an exaggeration). We see couples eating ice cream with their one baby on a nice evening and dream of the times when it was possible to do pretty much whatever we wanted every evening. Now we are pulled to what seems like every corner of the universe to cheer on our kids in activities or fulfill responsibilities in the evenings.

So with just the two of us on vacation, ALL we wanted to do was SIT. We sat poolside, we sat at the beach, we sat for great evening shows, we sat in a kayak on the water and we had the most relaxing time!

Yes, the resort has snorkel gear (limited and cannot be checked out after 3pm) which we really enjoyed. They also have paddle boards and kayaks and other numerous non-motorized water equipment.

We also were lucky enough to get a couples massage, which honestly was the best one we’ve ever had! After the massage we were able to use their spa guests only indoor pool and loved the privacy and quietness there.

There are activities throughout the resort all day long for those wanting to be active, but like I said, we truly enjoyed the opportunity to just SIT. We did, however pop over to the Bubble Beach Party and enjoyed dancing and playing in the bubbles. Later, our teenager told us the bubbles were probably destroying the coral. We just claimed ignorance and enjoyed dancing like we were 20 again.

For entertainment, the resort puts on well-planned shows every evening. We enjoyed a Mexican show with incredible costumes and dancing, and also a family-friendly Horror show.

The Grand Riviera Princess truly has it all. There are activities throughout the resort all day long for those wanting to be active, but like I said, we truly enjoyed the opportunity to just SIT and enjoy the relaxing setting.
